weird!

I'm always learning new things about myself. Today I learned that even if I am not one of the world's great travellers, my passport is very precious to me. I feel secure having it locked up in my steel almirah locker! It is so precious that I even hate sending it away along with a visa application. Yes, I know that my passport is what I get the visa on. I know it. But it doesn't mean that I like it.

  1. LOL it happens! I am also uncomfortable about sending important documents for photocopying.

  5. my passport was 'misplaced' (read lost by some idiot) by the embassy i sent it to for a visa. had to get a new one made and had to get the residence permit visa put on it with a gazillion proofs to prove i wasn't a terrorist type. most avoidable process i tell you.
    i would certainly get jitters if i needed to send mine off now.

    btw where are off to?!

  6. @ihm: Documents have become proof of our very existence. No wonder we get paranoid!
    @phoenixritu: I'm so glad I'm not alone! Love you too:)
    @Sue: Thank you, kind lady!
    @cuckoo: Ah, another kindred spirit!
    @chox: We've applied for Aussie tourist visas. Let's see if they want us!
    Yes, I remember you telling me about the rigmarole you had to go through. So my paranoia is not without reason. Thanks:)

  8. You are not alone.
    I also wish my visa would come on a piece of paper which i can stick onto my passport by myself.
    But the embassies dont agree with you and me, hehehe.

  9. hehhe. I am also stressed when I have to part with these proofs of our existence.
    It is because of the nightmares they put us through if we have to re apply.

  10. oh, the worst is when you have to renew your passport. Along with the application you need to submit and send away your existing passport.

    I had an agonising wait for two weeks, before the fresh and the old one arrived by teh good old Speed Post service. I kept tracking the status online for all thsoe weeks, smiled very nicely at the policemen who verified my credentials and such.

  11. @churning the wordmill: Since I'm married to this man who would like me to see more of the world, my poor passport has to emerge from the cupboard. Boo hoo(:
    @mampi: Such a lovely idea- I'd certainly like that. They take our fingerprints(for US visas at least) and photographs anyway- why don't they do just that?
    @usha: That of course- the very though is painful. And when I can even be invisible to my husband (ref. previous post), I definitely need official proof of my existence!
    @airspy: I was lucky this time- the new passport was delivered home before I'd even realised it, and the old one also came back pretty soon. Now all three have gone off for the Aussie visa. Let's see if we get it or not:)
