Back Home

My mother was discharged from the hospital this Saturday, after an eighteen day stay.
The proposed cardiac intervention has been postponed for now.
Despite all nursing efforts in the hospital a bed sore has formed, which adds to her problems.
Her mental state is now our greatest cause for concern, as she is often very confused and disorientated. A psychiatrist has seen her and has prescribed several medicines. We are hoping that they restore her mental equilibrium soon. We are still not used to this stranger that often takes over our mother's usual personality.
Life continues complicated.

Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers. We need them now more than ever.

I hope she gets better soon, and that all of you have enough strength to pull through this. Good luck and prayers, Dipali.

I am glad she is back home. Take care, dipali. Both of yourself and your mom.

dipaliji, please look for a mattress/underlay that has a vibrating action...basically you need some kind of "pulse" massage that stops the body from being in the same position for long and sores forming.
and its too many changes in such a short space of time and the anaesthesia that disorients our elders. Just let her relax at your place, discipline7predictable routine to a level that it becomes boring.
and for everything else all our prayers.

It sounds like your mom is really going through a very bad time. I am glad to know that she will be back home but I hope you find the courage to take these difficulties in your stride and take care that you are able to shoulder the responsibilities with inner strength and prayers. Take care.

@ Banno, Penguin, Rayna: Thank you.

@Aneela:Thanks dear, that was what they were using in the hospital, to no great avail. My geriatric specialist will see her tomorrow, and I will seek his advice too. I think the angina attack weakened her so much that all her muscles were totally limp. Now she is able to turn over onto both sides, and the day and night nurses ensure that the sore stays dry and clean.

I can imagine how tough this is for you and your family - and your mum as well. You and her will be in my prayers - and in the mean, much love and faith to all of you.

Glad you have consulted a psychiatrist, the advice and meds will help.

More good wishes in your difficult time. I've seen my mom struggle for 2 years with my grandad, and it was very very difficult. He had bedsores too, you're right they really make things much more difficult.

Hate leaving comments on posts like this because of the sheer helplessness involved. And I know you must be going through worse, as a friend of mine is seeing the same with her mother, and I know what it's doing to her.

Just lots of good wishes. And hope. Always that.

I pray for you/her. My friend's mom went through the same things (minus heart issue) you have mentioned. I was also very close to her mom. It is not easy to see a very smart and alert woman suddenly loose her memory or sound disoriented. I truly pray that she comes back to normalcy with some intervention.
