In which the SRE is very concerned

On our recent trip to  Kerala, (where the SRE was working and I was holidaying with friends), we had a little weekend getaway to Kumarakom. As we entered the resort we saw several trees laden with huge flocks of snake birds or darters.

The trees near the lagoon full of darters
As you can see from these photographs, it was a very lovely place. The SRE, however, got  very worried when he saw a darter dive into the lagoon, head first, and apparently not emerge from the water. This was followed by several more. I presumed that these were aquatic birds that could swim underwater, but the man was not convinced. He was quite convinced that these were all kamikaze birds, each one on a suicide mission. It was only after he saw a few snakey heads emerge that he relaxed!

"kamikaze birds, each one on a suicide mission"

There is a Kafkesque story in there somewhere...

As you can see, I am taking every opportunity to show off my newly minted acquaintance with the author :-)

@peccavi: The poor man was seriously worried!
@JLT: Yes, I'd posted some of them on FB.
@Rohini: There's a phrase for that in Hindi- saawan ke andhey ko hara hi hara nazar aata hai! You will now see Kafkaesque imagery everywhere:)

I was chuckling away at the thought of suicidal birds, but then I remembered, I know a suicidal dog, so maybe suicidal birds is not such a far fetched thought! :P

@Ron: Tell me about this suicidal dog, sounds most intriguing!

His name is Simba. He belongs to a friend who is...to put it mildly...slightly jobless and cracked in the head. He is a mix between a German Shepherd and a Great Dane (I think), so huuggeee. This lady feeds him by hand n sings him to sleep and also...erm....lifts his tail n sniffs to see if he has stomach upset etc. I can totally understand his trauma. I would be highly traumatised myself. He keeps leaping off their 2nd floor balcony, poor thing.
